After two pretty solid performances in goal in the Capitals' first two regular-season games, it appears Michal Neuvirth will keep the starting job for the time being. Coach Bruce Boudreau said during today's morning skate that Neuvirth will get the start against the Ottawa Senators tonight.
Via Katie Carrera of the Washington Post:
"We knew he could handle it," Boudreau said. "He played a lot of games in Hershey and he went back-to-back-to-back in the playoffs last year and played every playoff game...I've been saying it all along; he's a good goaltender."
It's a bit unclear whether Neuvirth is starting because Varlamov is injured or because the job is his anyway. Varlamov participated in the morning skate and stayed for extra work afterwards, but has not been activated from injured reserve. He has missed the team's first two games with a groin injury.
