Semyon Varlamov Has Groin Injury, Expects To Return Next Week

Stay connected for news and updates

We now know the "undisclosed" injury that Capitals goalie Semyon Varlamov has that is keeping him out of at least the team's first two regular-season games. According to Varlamov himself, it's a groin injury.

Via CSN's Corey Masisak:

Semyon Varlamov said it is a groin injury but not as bad as its been before. He expects to be ready sometime next week for the #Caps.

Varlamov was placed on injured reserve yesterday, but can be activated at any time, since it was done retroactive to September 22. He reportedly participated in the team's practice today, including the skate session at the end.

Michal Neuvirth will start in goal until Varlamov is healthy.
