The Washington Capitals will not have the services of Alexander Semin for at least the next two days. Coach Bruce Boudreau said after practice on Monday that Semin will not accompany the team on its two-game road trip this week due to an apparent hip injury. In his place, Boyd Gordon will make the trip, Boudreau said. Gordon has not played since December 15.
Semin suffered the injury when he was hit by Florida Panthers right winger Steve Bernier. He had to leave the game with the injury, and evidently, he has not improved enough to travel with the team. The Capitals play the Florida Panthers on the road on Tuesday night, then travel to play the Tampa Bay Lightning one night later.
Semin started off the year extremely well, but has faded since then. He has 18 goals and 17 assists on the season.
