The Caps have started slow yet again, as they go into the first intermission down 1-0 against the Ottawa Senators.
Soon after, the Capitals got another shot at getting a power play goal as Filip Kuba was called for hooking, giving the Caps the one man advantage. But, as has been the case recently, the Caps were simply unable to score a power play goal.
The Caps continue a really frustrating stretch of first periods. They are currently the lowest first period scoring team in the NHL, and this past first period did nothing to improve that statistic. They have been prone to slow starts and it has cost them, with today being no different so far.
Once again, the Caps need to rally in the second period in order to get back into this game and regain some of their confidence they've been lacking in recent weeks.
