Lightning Vs. Capitals: Scoreless Regulation Leads To Overtime

Stay connected for news and updates

The Washington Capitals and Tampa Bay Lightning have played for an hour name, and neither team has managed to score. Reports that the the goals were shrunk prior to the first whistle have not been confirmed.

The game has been anything but boring though. Both teams have had plenty of solid chances, and have tested each other early and often.

In what has been an incredibly even contest between the two teams, the Capitals have the edge 34-33 in shots on goal. This means that the two goaltenders have turned away 67 shots already tonight, and we've still got five minutes of extra time and possibly a shootout to go. Dwayne Roloson and Semyon Varlamov have each been excellent. Varlamov in particular has made about a half dozen difficult and impressive saves.

We could be here all night. Perhaps if the roof is removed from the Verizon Center, the Capitals will remember how to score again.
