Capitals Vs. Penguins: Braden Holtby Recalled From AHL Hershey

Stay connected for news and updates

Via Mike Vogel, the Washington Capitals have recalled goaltender Braden Holtby from AHL Hershey.

Holtby's recall puts Michal Neuvirth's status for Thursday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins into question. Head coach Bruce Boudreau said after Wednesday's practice that Neuvirth sufffered a lower-body injury and is listed as day-to-day. Boudreau. however, said that Neuvirth could possibly play against the Penguins and if he took Thursday's morning skate, there was a "good chance that he'll play."

With that in mind, morning skates are rarely vigorous, so Holtby's arrival could very well signify that he will be with the Caps tonight. In that case, it would seem likely that Tomas Vokoun will get the start for Washington.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.

UPDATE: Via The Washington Post's Katie Carrera, Neuvirth did not travel with the team to Pittsburgh, which means Vokoun and Holtby will be the Caps' goaltending tandem Thursday.
