Panthers Vs. Capitals: Washington Dominates FIrst Period, Leads Florida 1-0

Much has been made about the Washington Capitals not playing complete games despite the fact that they're 4-0-0 so far this season. They're one-third of the way there.

The Caps dominated the Florida Panthers throughout the first period and Marcus Johansson's early power play goal has given them a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Johansson's power play goal put the Caps up 1-0 at 4:24. After sustained pressure in the offensive zone, Johansson corralled the puck on the goal line to Jacob Markstrom's left. Markstrom, making his first career NHL start, was in position, but Johansson's stuff attempt somehow squeaked through his pads and crawled across the goal line. It was Johansson's third goal of the season.

The Panthers had one power play opportunity late in the period. One night after scoring five power play goals, Florida could not set up at all as Washington trapped them in the neutral zone. In fact, it took the Panthers nearly 12 minutes to register their first shot on goal. Shots are 11-2 in favor of Washington.
