The Washington Capitals have jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against the Detroit Red Wings in a battle of the last two remaining undefeated teams in the NHL. Washington entered the game 6-0-0, and is welcoming the 5-0-0 Detroit Red Wings to Verizon Center Saturday night.
The Capitals got on the board first courtesy of a Mike Green power play goal just six minutes into the game, with Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin assisting on the score. Washington stretched the lead to two after Marcus Johansson's fourth goal of the young season.
Tomas Vokoun has continued his stellar play in net of late, stopping all 10 shots he faced in the first period.
