A lingering ankle injury has ruled Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green out for the Caps' game against the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night and most likely for their tilt versus the New York Islanders on Saturday night, reports Stephen Whyno of the Washington Times.
In their last three games, each without Green, the Capitals struggled defensively, yielding 13 goals. Whyno has more on where they miss Green most:
In the past three games, the power play has gone 1-for-11 (9.1 percent), defensive miscues have led to a couple of bad even-strength goals and the penalty kill has struggled without Green’s under-the-radar talents there.
In 159 minutes of ice time this season, Green has three goals and three assists. Now in his seventh season, Green earned his first All-Star appearance in 2011 and finished the 2008/09 and 2009/10 campaigns as a finalist for the Norris Trophy, which honors the league's best all-around defenseman.
