The 2010 calendar year was one of the most eventful in Washington D.C. That year featured a stacked crop of stories, led most notably by the ongoing Albert Haynesworth saga. Put it this way: the departure of longtime Maryland football coach Ralph Friedgen was just 10th on our 2010 list.

The 2011 calendar year, on the other hand, wasn't quite as nuts. That said, 2011 offered plenty of stories on its own. There were stories of triumph, though they were ultimately few and far between. There were stories of failure and disappointment. There were stories that were simply hilarious or bizarre.

With the new year coming over the weekend, we'll spend all day counting down those stories. We'll begin with an honorable mention list, then count down the top 10 stories of the year in this StoryStream. Join Samuel Chamberlain and myself as we remember the 2011 year in Washington D.C. sports.
