The Capitals needed a backup center before Nicklas Backstrom fractured his thumb against the Penguins on Monday. That need can now be classified as dire. But they have reserved one of their pivots for a few extra years, according to Mike Vogel.
#Caps forward Matt Hendricks just moments ago signed a two-year contract extension worth $1.6 million with Washington.
Hendricks has seven goals and 12 assists for the Capitals in 57 games played this season. Hendricks should help with the depth at the center position, but it won't solve all of the Capitals problems. They still need a center to play ahead of him. But this is certainly a good start.
