VIDEO: Alex Ovechkin's Game-Winning Goal Vs. The Islanders

Stay connected for news and updates

We cannot mention Alex Ovechkin's game-winning goal to beat the New York Islanders in overtime without mentioning a number of factors that led to it. It wouldn't have been possible without Brooks Laich stunning goal with just 48 seconds left to tie the game. It also wouldn't have looked so easy if it wasn't in a four-on-four situation with a forward clumsily defending him.

But still - come on. It's Alex Ovechkin making it all look easy and giving the Capitals a stunning win. Ovechkin took the puck down the length of the ice, cut inside and flipped a backhand past Islanders goalie Nathan Lawson. It was Ovechkin's 25th goal of the season, and was yet another sign that he is finally getting his groove back.

Now, the rest of the scorers have to get it together too. The good news is that newcomer Jason Arnott made an impact, getting the assist on Laich's goal. Now, the existing guys need to get it done.
