CORRECTION APPENDED

In and of itself, this Alex Ovechkin goal to send Game 2 of the 2011 NHL Playoffs second-round series between the Capitals and the Lightning was remarkable. The Capitals couldn't get anything going all throughout the period, and it didn't look like they would get much going even after Bruce Boudreau elected to pull Michal Neuvirth with 1:43 remaining. Despite all that, Ovechkin somehow found a way to crash the net and score.

But here's the most incredible part of the whole play: the way it all went down was remarkable. Victor Hedman of the Lightning looked poised to clear the puck, but after losing his stick, he grabbed one that had the wrong curve. He couldn't clear the puck, and Jason Arnott found Ovechkin for the goal.

Unfortunately, the goal meant nothing because Vincent Lecavalier scored to give the Capitals a heartbreaking overtime loss. Hopefully we can still take a minute to appreciate the degree of difficulty Ovechkin showed here.

The story initially said Ovechkin scored with Hedman's stick, when it was Hedman who had the curve the wrong way.
