Eric Fehr Injury Could Keep Capitals' Winger Out Until Training Camp

Capitals' winger Eric Fehr underwent successful surgery on his shoulder this past weekend, and according to Katie Carrera of the Washington Post, he could be out until after the 2011-12 season begins this fall. He suffered the injury on Jan. 14th, when he collided with Eric Steckel. The collision ripped the labrum cartilage off the bone, and forced Fehr to miss 22 games. He truend to the lineup later in the season and participated in the Playoffs.

According to Capitals team physician Ben Shaffer, the procedure went as well as could be expected.

"As disconcerting as it is for Eric to have to go through this again, the ball and socket looked healthy and he doesn’t have arthritis in his shoulder," Shaffer said. "[The procedure] went perfectly."

Fehr has a history of should injuries. He got surgery on both of his shoulder two years ago. That history is troubling for the future, and it might affect the speed at which he recovers from this latest surgery.
