In the wake of the Washington Capitals' 5-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning that swept them out of the 2011 NHL Playoffs, a bit of history is in order. Via Ryan O'Halloran of CSN Washington, the Caps are the first No. 1 seed since the conference playoff format began in 1994 to be swept out in the first two rounds.
↵The Caps can add that to their historic collapse last season, where they became the first No. 1 seed in NHL playoff history to blow a 3-1 series lead in their seven-game loss to the Montreal Canadiens. The NHL's slogan for this year's playoffs was "History Will Be Made." The Caps sure did.
