Confirmed by Elias -- Capitals first No. 1 seed since conference playoff format started in 1994 to be SWEPT in first or second rounds.
In the wake of the Washington Capitals' 5-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning that swept them out of the 2011 NHL Playoffs, a bit of history is in order. Via Ryan O'Halloran of CSN Washington, the Caps are the first No. 1 seed since the conference playoff format began in 1994 to be swept out in the first two rounds.
The Caps can add that to their historic collapse last season, where they became the first No. 1 seed in NHL playoff history to blow a 3-1 series lead in their seven-game loss to the Montreal Canadiens. The NHL's slogan for this year's playoffs was "History Will Be Made." The Caps sure did.
