Of course, with every season comes certain key games, homestands and road trips. Some of the highlights are broken down below:
- The Caps' longest homestand is five games (February 28-March 8).
- On the other hand, the Caps' longest road trip is also five games (March 13-22).
- The Caps will travel to Winnipeg for the first time since 1995 when they meet the former Atlanta Thrashers November 17. Winnipeg will come to Washington for the first time November 23.
- Washington will meet the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Boston Bruins, for the first time January 24. They will face their biggest rival, the Pittsburgh Penguins, for the first time October 13 and will seek revenge against the Tampa Bay Lightning for knocking them out of the playoffs October 10 in the first of six meetings.
