Capitals Vs. Canadiens: Dennis Wideman's Floater Gives Caps 1-0 Lead

Stay connected for news and updates

Dennis Wideman's goal may be considered a slap shot, but it was more of a chip shot.

Wideman's 10th goal of the season has given the Caps a 1-0 lead over the Montreal Canadiens after 20 minutes.

Brooks Laich won a faceoff in the offensive zone and Wideman wound up, but the puck floated through the air and somehow over the glove hand of Peter Budaj at 8:10. Wideman's 10th goal is just four goals away from a career high.

In his first game since January 22 after serving a three-game suspension, Alex Ovechkin had no shots on goal and one hit in 6:46 of ice time.

Tomas Vokoun made 10 saves in the first period, while Budaj made 10 of his own. According to Mike Vogel, the Caps have a lead after one period for just the fourth time in 26 road games this season. Two of those four instances have been against the Canadiens.
