Capitals Vs. Canadiens: Caps Cling On To 1-0 Lead Over Habs

The Washington Capitals may still be winning 1-0, but it is primarily because of the Montreal Canadiens' ineptitude.

The Caps mustered only three shots on goal while the Habs had over three times that amount during the second period, but Tomas Vokoun held down the proverbial fort to keep the visitors in the lead.

Washington did have a chance to take a 2-0 lead when Troy Brouwer was awarded a penalty shot midway through the period when he slipped behind the Canadiens' defense. Brouwer had Peter Budaj beat, but the latter threw his stick at the former to stop the puck, which is illegal. On the ensuing penalty shot, Budaj redeemed himself by stopping Brouwer to keep the game at 1-0.

Other than that, the ice was titled in Montreal's favor as they put 10 shots on goal, but Vokoun's solid play and the Canadiens' league-worst power play allowed the Caps to maintain their one-goal lead.
