Capitals Vs. Red Wings: Keith Aucoin's Goal Gives Washington 4-1 Lead After 40 Minutes

Stay connected for news and updates

Keith Aucoin's third goal of the season restored the Washington Capitals' three goal advantage as they lead the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 after two periods at Joe Louis Arena.

The Red Wings had cut Washington's lead to 3-1 after Kyle Quincey's slap shot from just inside the point beat Braden Holtby, pinged off the post and deflected into the net at the 5:15 mark of the period.

But Aucoin struck at the 17:24 mark after a deflected centering pass from Alexander Semin landed right at his skates. Aucoin was able to spin and shoot the puck past Jimmy Howard to make the score 4-1.

Braden Holtby has been solid in net for the Capitals, stopping 21 of the 22 shots he's faced over two periods.
