Jets Vs. Capitals: Jason Chimera's Goal Gives Caps 1-0 Lead

Stay connected for news and updates

The Washington Capitals suffered from missed opportunities during their 2-1 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday. It seemed that those same misses were coming back to haunt them Friday against the Winnipeg Jets until Jason Chimera finally broke through.

Chimera's career-high 18th goal of the season has given the Caps a 1-0 lead over the Jets after 20 minutes.

After a back-and-forth period that saw both teams get their chances, Chimera scored the only goal of the period at 16:06. Chimera took a pass from Jeff Halpern and utilized his speed to burst down center ice before beating Ondrej Pavelec with a backhand.

Michal Neuvirth, on his 24th birthday, earned the start for Washington and has made eight saves so far.
