The Capitals playoff chances hang in the balance against a red-hot Buffalo Sabres team at Verizon Center on Tuesday.

What is probably the biggest game of the year for the Washington Capitals will be played Tuesday night at the Verizon Center as the Capitals host the Buffalo Sabres. Both teams are tied for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

If the Capitals are going to keep their playoff hopes alive, Alex Ovechkin needs to stay hot and the defense cannot allow the Sabres to score easily. Ovechkin has scored seven goals in the last five games and 10 goals with 12 points in his last 10 games. The Caps need to have another great game from Ovechkin on Tuesday night.

The Sabres are 7-0-2 in their last nine games and have been on a roll since being in last place in the Eastern Conference on Jan. 24. Since then, they have gone 18-5-5. The reemergence of goaltender Ryan Miller has a lot to do with that. Miller has gone 13-1-3 in his last 17 starts after recovering from concussion symptoms and an injured neck.
