Despite a valiant effort by the Washington Capitals in Game 1 of their 2012 Eastern Conference playoff series with the Boston Bruins, the Caps find themselves down 1-0 after losing Game 1 in overtime 1-0 on a goal by Boston's Chris Kelly.

Despite a valiant effort by the Washington Capitals in Game 1 of their 2012 Eastern Conference playoff series with the Boston Bruins, the Caps find themselves down 1-0 after losing Game 1 in overtime 1-0 on a goal by Boston's Chris Kelly.

Both goaltenders played well in the series opener. Boston's Tim Thomas stopped all 17 shots he faced, while youngster Braden Holtby looked like a playoff veteran between the pipes for Washington, stopping 29 of the 30 shots he faced, several in dramatic fashion. Thomas' and Holtby's teammates also were quite defensive in Game 1, combining to block 37 shots in the contest.

Capitals star Alex Ovechkin was held in check throughout Game 1, mustering only one shot. For Washington to win the series, that number will have to increase dramatically, starting with Game 2.

The series shifts to Washington on Monday for Game 3.
