The Washington Capitals have traded the rights to goaltender Tomas Vokoun to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for a seventh-round pick, according to NHL.com. Following that trade, Vokoun agreed to a two-year deal with the Penguins that carries a $2 million cap value.

Vokoun waived his no-trade clause in order for Washington to deal him to Pittsburgh. That move prevented him from reaching free agency on July 1.

The Capitals signed Vokoun to a one-year deal in the summer of 2011. He was expected to bolster the team's goaltender situation. He had a 25-17-2 record with a 2.51 goals-against average and .917 save percentage last season. A March 29 groin injury pushed him to the sidelines for Washington's playoff run, thrusting Braden Holtby into the spotlight as the team's No. 1 goalie.
