The Washington Nationals continue to express interest in signing 34-year old Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt to anchor the top of their rotation with Stephen Strasburg and Jordan Zimmermann, according to the latest MLB rumors. The most recent report comes from Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
The Nationals plan a major push for free-agent right-hander Roy Oswalt, viewing him as the perfect veteran complement to Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann, John Lannan and Chien-Ming Wang, major-league sources said.
The Nationals won't be the only team interested in Oswalt. Rosenthal reports the Texas Rangers could sign him if they lose C.J. Wilson, and there certainly will be other suitors given the down pitcher market.
Oswalt went 9-10 last season with a 3.69 ERA for the Phillies. If the Nationals cannot sign Oswalt, Mark Buehrle of the Chicago White Sox is another potential option.
