Washington Nationals Starter Jason Marquis did not allow a hit to the visiting Seattle Mariners until the sixth inning, when Mariners pitcher Michael Pineda hit a single up the middle with one out. It was Pineda's first career hit. Ichiro Suzuki then followed the play with a single of his own.
The game is currently scoreless, although the Nationals have threatened to score a couple times. After doubling in the first inning, Nats outfielder Jayson Werth advanced to third on a Pineda wild pitch, only to be thrown out at home on a Ryan Zimmerman fly ball to end the inning after the next at-bat.
In the fourth inning, Roger Bernadina led off the inning with a double, followed by a Jayson Werth walk. After Ryan Zimmerman flied out, Michael Morse loaded the bases with a single. However, they failed to score after Pineda struck out second baseman Danny Espinosa and catcher Ivan Rodriguez to end the inning. Pineda has allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out seven through six innings.
