Chien-Ming Wang, who has not started a big league game in over two years, will take the hill Tuesday for the Nationals Triple-A affiliate, the Syracuse Chiefs. Via Nationals News Network:
The Syracuse Chiefs are proud to announce that Washington Nationals starting pitcher Chien-Ming Wang is scheduled to start for the Chiefs on Tuesday, July 19. Wang is slated to pitch for the Chiefs against the Buffalo Bisons in Tuesday night's game starting at 7:00 PM.
This progression through his rehab assignment appears to be right on schedule with what GM Mike Rizzo had planned all along, with Wang debuting in the majors sometime in August. Wang was 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA in four rehab starts between Hagerstown, Potomac and Harrisburg. He threw 18 innings in those appearances, allowing just 13 hits and two runs.
Wang has not pitched in the bigs since July 4, 2009, when he was a key member of the New York Yankees starting rotation. As a member of the Yankees, he was 55-26 with a 4.16 ERA. He finished second in AL Cy Young voting in 2006, when he was 19-6 with a 3.63 ERA.
