The Washington Nationals defeated the New York Mets on Monday night by the final score of 3-2. It came after a young National tallied his first Major League RBI in the top of the seventh inning.
With two outs in the top of the seventh, second baseman Steve Lombardozzi took a swing at a R.A. Dickey 79 mph knuckleball and turned it into a single, his first hit since being called up to the Majors. Lombardozzi was then caught in a rundown and was tagged out at second. However, shortstop Brian Bixler was able to reach home on the play and put the Nats one run up on the Mets, 3-2. Closer Drew Storen entered in the ninth and shut the door on the Metropolitans for his 35th save of the year.
Reliever Todd Coffey ended up getting the win after he came in for starter Ross Detwiler in the sixth. Detwiler finished the night pitching 5.2 innings giving up two runs on three hits, walking three and striking out two.

The Washington Nationals and New York Mets are locked in a pitcher's duel on Monday night. Nationals starter Ross Detwiler is dealing while New York's R.A. Dickey is keeping pace, but made a couple of mistakes which the Nats took advantage of as Washington leads 1-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning.
The young, Nats southpaw has gone four innings giving up only one hit and one walk. He has retired 12 of the 14 batters he has faced. The Nats have collected only three hits off Dickey who has been effective in using his patented knuckleball pitch. Ryan Zimmerman hit a single and Jayson Werth doubled. The game's lone run came off a catcher Wilson Ramos single in the top of the fifth which scored Werth who made it to third on a New York fielding error.
So far the Nationals are 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position.
