The Washington Nationals absolutely savaged the New York Mets on Thursday afternoon 10-1 to earn a four game sweep of the bumbling Mets. Good starting pitching and ferocious late game offense have put the Nationals in sole possession of third place in the NL East.
Heroes of the game no doubt go to shortstop Ian Desmond and starting pitcher Tom Milone. Desmond went 5-for-6 with three RBI. Honorable offensive mentions go to catcher Wilson Ramos who finished the day 3-for-5 and a RBI while scoring three runs and third baseman Ryan Zimmerman who went 1-for-4, but scored two RBIs. Rick Ankiel, Jonny Gomes, Chris Marrero and Roger Bernadina also contributed to the scoring.
Nats starter Tom Milone had a sensational rematch with the Mets. He went five innings giving up one run on three hits. He walked three and struck out four on the way to his first Major League win. It looks like "Tommy Gun" Milone is starting to heat up and the progress he showed Thursday should be very encouraging to the Nationals.
The Nationals move to 71-77 on the year with 13 games remaining in the 2011 campaign.

The Washington Nationals and New York Mets are duking it out on Thursday afternoon with neither team wanting to give the other any ground. However, just as in the previous three games of the four game series the Nationals have been able to take the lead on the Mets. The Nats lead 2-1 going into the seventh.
If the Mets end up losing this one they might want to smack their own hands. In the top of the fifth Nats center fielder Rick Ankiel scored on a fielding error by first baseman Valentino Pascucci. Later in the inning shortstop Ian Desmond scored on a Ryan Zimmerman RBI sac fly. The Nationals have collected only four hits in six innings.
Nationals rookie starter Tom Milone has been showed his stuff and what he is capable of by pitching five innings and giving up only one run on three hits, walking three and striking out four. A much improved performance from his two previous ones. Reliever Colin Balester relieved him in the sixth and with two outs gave up a RBI double which was credited to Milone for the runner already on base.
