Prince Fielder's Contract With Detroit Tigers For 9 Years With No Opt-Out Clause, According To Report

Prince Fielder's new contract with the Detroit Tigers is for nine years and $214 million, and apparently contains no opt-out clause on either his end or the team's, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.

That's a heavy price for any team to pay, and one that was apparently too heavy for the Washington Nationals, who were seen by many as the favorites to land him. Manager Davey Johnson had previously said that the price was too rich for the team. Now, in an interview with Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post, Johnson expressed doubt that the team even made an offer.

The Nationals will likely roll with Adam LaRoche at first base and Michael Morse in left field.
