Stephen Strasburg says 'wait and see' on playoff pitching possibilities

Joy R. Absalon-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

MLB Network crews tries Monday night to get Strasburg to admit the possibilities of him starting in the 2012 postseason.

The Washington Nationals' organization as been very clear about its plans on not pitching its ace, Stephen Strasburg, for the rest of the season; however, a recent interview done by the MLB Network with Strasburg has some believing he will pitch in the postseason.

In the interview, which was done Monday night after the Nats' clinched the National League East crown, Strasburg was asked by MLB Network studio analyst Mitch Williams if there was any, "covert operations going on where you may pitch in the postseason?"

"Uh, you know, we’ll have to wait and see," Strasburg said. "I’ve been playing catch and everything. But I think this team is very, very capable of taking it all the way."

After getting some flack from the MLB Network staff, mainly by Harold Reynolds, Strasburg was asked if the crew was onto something concerning his postseason role.

"Well, all I can say is it’s pretty tough," Strasburg answered. "But times like these, it just makes it all the better. It was awesome to be able to witness this and experience it, and I know we’re going on to bigger and better things."

At the end of the interview, Strasburg does admit he's been taking batting practice and could possibly be used in a pitch-hitting role if needed.
