Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson confirmed that Stephen Strasburg would not be part of the Nats' postseason roster.

Washington Nationals ace pitcher Stephen Strasburg will not be on the Nationals' postseason roster, manager Davey Johnson confirmed on Wednesday during a radio interview on 106.7 The Fan.

Strasburg last pitched on Sept. 8 and was then shut down for the season. He was on a highly publicized and highly debated strict innings limit this season after coming off Tommy John surgery. Strasburg ended the season having pitched 159.1 innings, accumulating a 15-6 record with a 3.16 ERA and 197 strikeouts.

The Nationals were adamant that Strasburg would be shut down once he reached his innings limit and would not be reactivated for the postseason; however, an Oct. 1 interview gave some reason to believe that Strasburg might make an appearance in the playoffs. Johnson put an end to any such speculation on Wednesday.

The Nationals have clinched the NL East and are tied with the Cincinnati Reds for the best record in baseball at 97-64. They play their final game of the regular season against the Philadelphia Phillies at 1:05 p.m. ET on Wednesday; a win would secure them the best record and the No. 1 seed in the National League.
