Brad Lidge Injury Update: Reliever Activated Off Disabled List, Henry Rodriguez Now On DL

Washington Nationals relief pitcher Brad Lidge was activated off of the disabled list on Thursday and will be ready to go in Thursday's game against the New York Mets. The Nationals made another announcement this afternoon as fellow relief pitcher Henry Rodriguez was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

So far this season, Lidge has made seven appearances and has two saves in four chances with a 5.14 ERA.

The reason for Rodriguez's trip to the DL is because he slammed a door on his finger, according to Washington Post Nationals writer Adam Kilgore.

Obviously now because of being placed on the disabled list, it means he will not be starting on Friday.

Brad Lidge Injury: Nationals Reliever One Step Closer To June Return

Washington Nationals closer Brad Lidge took one step closer to getting back in the game on Monday. According to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post, Lidge threw off flat ground on Monday. It was the first time since his surgery to do that.

Lidge's return is targeted for the second or third week of June, if his rehabilitation schedule stays on track. Lidge had surgery to repair a sports hernia on May 1.

Washington signed Lidge to a one-year, $1 million free agent deal in January. His last appearance came on April 21 against the Marlins.

Injuries plagued Lidge last season with the Phillies. He made 25 appearances for just over 19 innings and one save last year, to go with a 23/13 strike out-to-walk ratio. A rotator cuff injury put him on the shelf for 97 games.

Brad Lidge Injury: Washington Closer Expected To Return In One Month

Washington Nations closer Brad Lidge underwent surgery on Tuesday morning to repair a sports hernia, which reportedly went "very well." When he returns, though, is the next question. Nats manager Davey Johnson appears optimistic that such a date will be sooner rather than later, telling CSNWashington.com writer Mark Zuckerman that Lidge should be back in the bullpen in about one month.

Davey: Lidge expected back in 1 month following surgery today for sports hernia.

Lidge last appeared this season in an April 21 game against the Miami Marlins, where he gave up two runs and three walks over the span of one inning. On the season, he has struggled a bit more than usual, posting an ERA of 5.14.

Brad Lidge Surgery: Nationals Closer Has Successful Surgery To Repair Hernia On Tuesday

The Washington Nationals are already short one closer, as Drew Storen is still recovering from surgery earlier this season on his elbow, but now they will be without another for at least three weeks. Brad Lidge has surgery on Tuesday morning to repair a hernia, according to Amanda Comak.

The guys over at Baseball Nation have a little bit more information on what Lidge's recovery will likely look like.

It could take up to three weeks before Lidge is cleared to throw again, and then it’s likely he’ll have to go on a rehab assignment. Thus, the Nats will have to continue to to with Henry Rodriguez as their closer, probably for another month. Rodriguez has pitched reasonably well, recording five saves, but he also leads the National League in wild pitches, with four.

Brad Lidge Injury: Nationals' Closer Will Have Surgery, According To Report

Washington Nationals closer Brad Lidge, who was sent to the disabled list last week, will have surgery to repair a hernia injury, according to Adam Kilgore of The Washington Post. It's unknown when he will be able to return to game action, but Kilgore reports he should be able to begin throwing again in three weeks. Via @AdamKilgoreWP:

Lidge has had an up-and-down season to say the least, but with Drew Storen already on the shelf, it's still a significant loss for Davey Johnson's bullpen. His replacement, Henry Rodriguez, blew a two-run lead in the bottom of the 9th on Saturday night against the Dodgers.

Brad Lidge Injury: Reliever Placed On DL, Nationals Recall Ryan Perry, According To Reports

The Washington Nationals continue to be bit by the injury bug, as Amanda Comak of the Washington Post is reportingthat the Nats will place reliever Brad Lidge on the disabled list with an abdominal strain and recall pitcher Ryan Perry from Triple-A Syracuse.

Lidge has been beaten around in his outings so far in 2012, allowing four runs in seven innings while allowing seven walks. This injury, similar to a sports hernia, may be the culprit to his struggles thus far.

Perry has made eight appearances with the Syracuse Chiefs so far in 2012, pitching nine innings while allowing just two runs and striking out 11. He played with the Detroit Tigers in 2011, including making an appearance in the 2011 NLCS.
