Since a hasty return from the disabled list on June 8, Brad Lidge has made four appearances for the Washington Nationals. In those four appearances, Lidge has pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and six earned runs. On Friday and Saturday night, Lidge came into the game against the visiting New York Yankees and was hit hard, giving up three hits, a walk and two runs in two-thirds of an inning. His ERA now stands at 9.64 ERA.
It appears the Nationals have seen enough. Via the team's official twitter feed, Lidge has been designated for assignment. Ryan Mattheus will replace him on the roster and in the bullpen.
