The Washington Nationals released Brad Lidge on Monday.
The Washington Nationals sent relief pitcher Brad Lidge packing on Monday afternoon. Just 9 days after designating Lidge for assignment, the Nationals released him, according to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post, ending their short-lived experiment with the right-hander as part of the bullpen this season.
Lidge has been suffering from an abdominal injury this season. It sent him to the disabled list for a lengthy stretch early in the season, and he had surgery to repair a hernia. Lidge was activated from the DL on June 7. He struggled with his command before the team sent him to the minors on June 17.
In 11 appearances this season, Lidge had a 9.64 ERA, allowing 10 earned runs over the course of 9 and a third innings of work.
