Despite a furious social media campaign, Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper will not be going to this year's MLB All-Star Game in Kansas City.
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder and 2011 World Series MVP David Freese was voted to the final spot on the National League roster for the July 10 exhibition, while Harper placed third behind Freese and Atlanta Braves outfielder Michael Bourn. Arizona second baseman Aaron Hill brought up the rear in the NL vote.
Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish won the American League final vote, beating Jake Peavy of the White Sox, Baltimore's Jason Hammel, Tampa Bay's Jonathan Broxton, and Los Angeles' Ernesto Frieri.
Voting for the final spot on the American League and National League rosters had been conducted at MLB.com since Sunday. MLB also allowed fans to cast votes on Twitter between 12 p.m. and 4 pm. Thursday, when voting was closed.

The final spot for the National League All-Star team is still ongoing, and with the Atlanta Braves Chipper Jones being selected as an injury replacement that gives the National League a new leader in the fan vote. St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese has taken over the top spot with Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper moving up from third to second place.

Earlier Tuesday, an MLB.com report indicated Washington Nations rookie outfielder Bryce Harper wasthird in the voting for the final spot on the National League All-Star team, trailing Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones and St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese in the standings. Now, though, Harper's odds at winning the vote seem to have improved. Per Mark Zuckerman of CSNWashington.com:
Chipper Jones was just placed on the NL All-Star team to replace the injured Matt Kemp. So ... what does that do to the Final Vote thing?
This becomes Jones' ninth All-Star game appearance and first-ever appearance at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. For Harper, presumably, this means the second-place finisher would earn a trip to the Midsummer Classic. Voting runs through 4 p.m. EST on Thursday.

Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper is in the middle of the current voting standings for the final spot on the National League all-star team, according to an article by Mark Newman on MLB.com. Harper is currently third out of the five players available to be voted on in the National League.
As of now, he is behind Atlanta Braves third baseman and St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese in the standings. The other National league candidates include Braves outfielder Michael Bourn and Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill.
Harper has been downplaying his spot in the final vote, saying that the one deserving of the final spot, is Jones.
It's an accomplishment I guess, but you've got Chipper up there, and I think a Hall of Famer should be able to go to the All-Star Game in his last year. So if I was going to make a vote, I'd vote for Chip.
Despite that sentiment, the teams along the DC beltway are attempting to get more local representation. The Nationals and the Baltimore Orioles, who have pitcher Jason Hammel up for voting on the AL side, have announced an alliance for the second straight year in the final vote.
The Nationals and Orioles announced a second annual "Beltways Ballot," following last year's Michael Morse-Adam Jones package, with a prize-giveaway sweepstakes that offers incentive for both fan bases to vote for Harper and Hammel.
Voting for the final spot ends at 4 p.m. on Thursday. Fans can vote for Harper on MLB.com/vote or by texting the code N3 to 89269

Three members of the Washington Nationals will be traveling to Kansas City for the 2012 MLB All-Star Game on July 10. Shortstop Ian Desmond made the list as a reserve, while his teammates Gio Gonzalez and Stephen Strasburg will join the National League pitching rotation for the game.
At Federal Baseball, SB Nation's Nationals blog, Patrick Reddington lays out the case for Desmond's All-Star worthiness.
The Nats' 26-year-old shortstop is tied with the Astros' Lowrie at +2.6 fWAR as the most valuable shorstop in the NL after 76 games (76 for Desmond, 70 for Lowrie). In 334 plate appearances this season, Desmond has a .276/.305/.483 line with an NL-leading 23 doubles, the second-most HR's (13 to Lowrie's 14) and the second-highest wRC+ (112 to Lowrie's 129).
Desmond and Starlin Castro of the Chicago Cubs are backing up starter Rafael Furcal of the Cardinals on the All-Star roster.
Outfielder Bryce Harper is one of five players up for a vote to make the NL roster's final spot.

Three Nationals were named to the National League roster for the 2012 All-Star Game while Bryce Harper needs fans' help as he is up for the "Final Vote".
The rest of the latest order has Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill in third and Atlanta Braves outfielder Michael Bourn in the final fourth spot.
The Nationals public relations staff has been encouraging fans to vote for Harper, and with Jones out of pitcher since he is now on the team it gives Harper a better chance to earn that final roster spot.
Voting continues through July 5.
