The Los Angeles Dodgers are still thought to be the favorite to land the 35-year-old hurler.
Major League Baseball's non-waiver trade deadline is eleven days away and according to a report by Jon Heyman of CBS, the Nationals are looking to shore up their starting rotation.
#nationals said trying hard on dempster. #braves in, & #tigers may be, too. 1 gm still thinks #dodgers still favorite tho

The 35-year-old Dempster has had a phenomenal year with the Chicago Cubs, recording a 1.86 ERA in 92 innings pitched.
Heyman and others have consistently reported that the Los Angeles Dodgers would be the favorites to land Dempster, but Heyman reported earlier this week that the teams were struggling to agree on which prospects would be sent to Chicago as compensation. And considering Chicago's general manager is two-time World Series winner Theo Epstein, there's every possibility that the Dodgers will have to part with a lot.
Dempster has the right to veto a trade to any team.
