The Nationals continue their push for homefield advantage in the playoffs.

On Friday, the Nationals and Cardinals begin a three-game series in St. Louis.

Starting pitcher Edwin Jackson will get the nod for Washington, facing off against one of his former teams. In 12 seasons, Jackson has played on seven squads. This year, the righty sports a respectable 3.77 ERA along with a 1.18 WHIP.

The Cardinals counter with Adam Wainwright, who missed all of last season after Tommy John surgery. Wainwright currently carries a 4.02 ERA, which is far worse than his career mark of 3.16.

The Nats have clinched a playoff spot, but they'll need to win three of their final six games to guarantee sealing the NL East crown. They have won four of their last six games.

The magic number for St. Louis is four, currently holding a three-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers for the second National League Wild Card spot.

Friday's game will start at 8:15 ET and air on MASN2.
