The Redskins Are 3-2; Why Takewaways Is The Most Important Defensive Stat

Monday is fun with stats day; for this week at least. Today's stat is about the Redskins (obviously) and it comes to us from Joseph White:

Last year, Redskins ranked last in takeaways. This year, they rank last in yards allowed. Getting an idea which means more?less than a minute ago via web

A testament to the Redskins bend-but-don't-break defensive mentality. Games aren't won and lost by yards, so you can give up as many as you want as long as you don't let them in the endzone; And it helps to end those possessions with a takeaway. The Redskins have done a good job of that and have a 3-2 record to show for it. Defenses that force takeaways always put their team in position to win the game.
