Washington Redskins Injuries: Clinton Portis To Receive MRI On Injured Groin

Clinton Portis' return from a groin injury lasted only a few plays. Eventually, he reaggravated it, and was taken out of the Washington Redskins' 19-16 win over the Tennessee Titans.

So how serious is the injury? In his Monday press conference, coach Mike Shanahan said that Portis is receiving an MRI to determine the severity of the injury. Via Rich Campbell of the Fredericksburg Free-Lance Star:

Shanahan: Still waiting on MRI results on Portis.

Other updates on the Redskins that were injured on Sunday:

  • Shanahan said that center Casey Rabach suffered a second-degree meniscus tear. He will have another MRI, and the Redskins will judge his progress this week. That doesn't really sound good. Shanahan said the team will likely promote Selvish Capers and Erik Cook from the practice squad if Rabach and guard Artis Hicks, who missed the game, can't play.
  • Shanahan won't know the status of linebackers Lorenzo Alexander and Rocky McIntosh until Wednesday. Both players had to leave the game.
  • Shanahan said that offensive lineman Derrick Dockery, who got hurt in his first game action since Week 4, will probably miss at least a couple days of practice.
  • Shanahan said that running back Chad Simpson has been placed on injured reserve after suffering a 5th metatarsal injury in warmups. James Davis will replace him on the active roster.
  • Shanahan said safety Anderson Russell, who replaced LaRon Landry in the starting lineup after Landry hurt his achilles, will be placed on injured reserve with a torn ACL. The Redskins will sign a safety with their open roster spot because of Russell's injury.
Got all that? Woosh. In the understatement of the year, Shanahan said the team's practices will have to be less intense than usual due to the injuries. Via Ryan O'Halloran of Comcast SportsNet.

Shanny said practices will have to be scaled down this week because a lack of bodies.
