2011 NFL Mock Draft: Cam Newton Projected To Be Picked In Redskins' Range

Now that Cam Newton has gone pro, he will officially become the most scrutinized player in the draft. People will dive into his on-field performance, his mechanics, and, mostly, his off-field concerns. As a matter of fact, SB Nation's Mocking The Draft says that Newton is the most polarizing player out there.

Newton is a rare talent. With his size, athleticism and arm strength, Newton has more potential than any player in this year's draft. That alone will get him picked in the first round. He also displays great leadership skills that are impossible to teach. In only one year at Auburn, the Tigers rallied around Newton and he led them to a  national title.

But his negatives may scare some teams off completely. Newton will have to greatly refine all of his mechanical flaws if he wants to succeed in the pros. His field vision and pocket poise are average, at best. Then there are the questions about his character - fair or not. He's had multiple off-field issues and has bounced around from Florida to Blinn Junior College to Auburn.

But as of right now, it looks like Newton will indeed be within the range of the Redskins' 10th overall pick. SB Nation's Joel Thorman took a look at some prominent mock drafts, and all have Newton going within the 7-16 range of the first round. None have him going to the Redskins, but as we all know, the Redskins need a quarterback, so Newton is certainly a possibility.

A lot can change though in a few months, especially for a guy like Newton whose stock is so dependent on the interview process.
