Phillip Buchanon Returns To Washington Redskins' Practice After Four-Game Suspension

The Washington Redskins are sitting pretty at 3-1 heading into their bye week. They'll have two weeks to rest up, get healthy and prepare for their upcoming slate of games beginning in Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Redskins also welcomed back Phillip Buchanon into the fold on Tuesday, as the veteran cornerback returned to practice after serving a four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing supplements.

Upon reporting to work on Monday, Buchanon’s shoulder – injured during the Redskins’ final preseason game – was evaluated by Washington’s training staff. On Tuesday he was back on the practice field, watching much of the day’s activities beside members of the Redskins’ coaching staff.

"[I’m] definitely happy to be back," Buchanon said. "I feel pretty good right now," he said about his shoulder. "I’ll be here pretty much this whole week to try to get back to try to help this team get some more wins."

The question now is how Buchanon will be worked back into the rotation in Washington's defensive backfield. The 'Skins, of course, are playing great football defensively. They rank 5th in overall defense and 7th defending the pass. The 31-year old won't unseat DeAngelo Hall or Josh Wilson right away, but you can never have too many corners in today's pass-happy NFL. For the time being, Buchanan is just happy to put the suspension behind him and return to work with his teammates.

"We’re 3-1 right now which is a good feeling," Buchanon said. "Unfortunately for me I wasn’t able to be a part of the first four [games] but I look forward to being part of the next 12."
