Fred Davis Injury Update: Washington Redskins' Tight End Listed As Questionable Against 49ers

Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis, the team's top threat in the passing game, is listed as questionable for the Redskins' game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Davis is suffering from an ankle injury that he sustained against the Buffalo Bills, and he was limited in practice on Friday.

Coach Mike Shanahan didn't say much about Davis' status, except to say that he was limited. Davis joins Oshiomogho Atogwe, Trent Williams and Phillip Buchanon as questionable for the game.

Davis was spotted in a walking boot on Monday, which is when the possibility of him missing games first was raised. It seemed like his injury had improved earlier in the week, but we'll see on Sunday.

Fred Davis Injury Update: Washington Redskins' Tight End Says Ankle Is Getting Better

Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis suffered a sprained ankle in the team's 23-0 loss to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday. Though he did not leave the game due to the injury, he nonetheless was spotted wearing a walking boot in the locker room after the game.

Monday afternoon, when asked if Davis might miss any games due to the injury, coach Mike Shanahan said "we don't know yet." But the prognosis looks a bit better.

Meeting with the media on Tuesday, Davis said "his ankle is getting better," reports John Keim of the Washington Examiner:

#Redskins TE Fred Davis said his ankle is getting better; didn't think it was a big deal. Wasn't sure if he'd practice. No boot.

That's excellent news for Washington. In his fourth season, Davis has emerged as the team's leading receiver, with 36 catches for 517 yards and two touchdowns. The injury to top wideout Santana Moss only emphasizes Davis' importance to Washington's otherwise anemic passing game.

The Redskins host the San Francisco 49ers (6-1) this Sunday, Nov. 6. We'll update this StoryStream with more information about Davis' availability for that contest as it becomes available.
