In a third quarter that saw little action, San Francisco added to its lead over the Washington Redskins. A 45-yard field goal from David Akers midway through the quarter put the Niners ahea,d 16-3.
San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith has played a very efficient game, completing almost 70 percent of his throws for more than 140 yards and a touchdown. The run game for the Niners has been effective as well, with Kendall Hunter and Frank Gore both contributing. Through three quarters, the Niners appear headed to a 7-1 record.
The Redskins offense continues to be stuck in neutral. Rookie Roy Helu has played well for Washington despite a second-quarter fumble. He has over 100 yards through the air and the ground.
