If Washington Redskins fans are looking for some good news following a 19-11 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, here it is: running back Roy Helu broke a team record. The Redskins' running back caught 14 passes on Sunday, breaking Art Monk's single-game catch record. For the game, Helu had 14 catches for 105 yards, as well as 10 rushes for 41 yards and a fumble.
All in all, it's hard to say Helu's record-setting performance was that memorable. He caught a lot of passes on checkdowns and didn't do a ton with them. It's right up there with Mark Brunell's 22 straight completions several years back as far as unmemorable records. Nevertheless, it's still a record, and it came in Helu's very first start as a pro.
