It hasn't been a good day for the referees in this game between the Washington Redskins and New England Patriots. First, the Redskins benefited on a questionable roughing the passer call on Andre Carter, which led to a field goal. Then, London Fletcher was called for a penalty on Tom Brady that was even more ridiculous.
This might be one of the worst calls I've ever seen. Animated GIFs below the jump.
The official explanation was that Fletcher led with his forearm to hit Brady in the head. There's only one problem with that: Fletcher ended up hitting Brady by his waist. As I understand the human body, the waist is nowhere near the head.
As Jason La Canfora tweeted, this is why NFL players believe Brady is protected. After this play, can't say I blame them.
