SB Nation has been releasing Mock Drafts for a little while now, but this is the last one of a certain era. Their latest Mock is the last one they will release before the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, which makes it the last one before .40 times (aka the most important thing about NFL prospects that has ever existed, ever).
.40 times are helpful for evaluating some prospects, but some GM's can get caught up in them and miss players who are talented in pads but not so much in shorts. It also leads to overvaluing players based solely on speed. So while we will know more about the players next week that will cause some movement on the mock draft board, sometimes your first instinct is correct. Just keep that in mind.
As for their latest mock, SB Nation still has the Redskins taking Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones.
With the top two quarterbacks off the board (and one not really a fit for Mike Shanahan's offense to begin with), the Redskins could either address their defense, or try to boost their very weak receiving corps. Jones is good value and a nice fit in Shanahan's scheme.
I feel like I've said this a hundred times before, but here goes nothing. I love Julio Jones. I think he is a phenomenal football player, and could be a great fit for the Redskins. I also think he represents good value at the tenth spot overall. But I just don't think a Redskins team with so many holes to fill can a2011-fford to take a wide receiver that early in the draft. I don't doubt that he can make a positive impact (particularly with his blocking ability) I just think someone who could be involved in every single play would be more valuable. I love Jones, I'm just not sure the Redskins can afford to take him this year. But I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
