NFL Free Agency: Sidney Rice Will Be Looking For A New Team. Will Washington Be It?

Stay connected for news and updates

With the Washington Redskins unlikely to retain Santana Moss for the 2011 season, the team will probably be in the market for a new No. 1 receiver. Fortunately for the Redskins, it looks like plenty of top wide receivers will be available in free agency this offseason. We now know that Sidney Rice will be one of them.

The Minnesota Vikings decided not to place the franchise tag on Rice, instead working towards extending him for a long-term deal today to remain with the team, according to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. The Vikings hoped to meet with Rice's agent Drew Rosenhaus at the NFL Combine this week and complete a deal prior to the expiration of the NFL CBA on Mar. 5.

However, Adam Schefter of the NFL Network has indicated that Rice re-signing this week appears unlikely.

Drew Rosenhaus said his client, Vikings WR Sidney Rice, will not re-sign with Minnesota before first testing free agency.

If Rice does not return to Minnesota, he'll join an already vast group of big-name wide receivers eligible for free agency, including Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes, Terrell Owens, and Malcom Floyd.
