NFL Free Agency: Derrick Dockery Released By Redskins

The Washington Redskins released a highly-paid lineman that lost his starting job this season. No, I'm not talking about Albert Haynesworth. Instead, I'm talking about offensive lineman Derrick Dockery. Dockery told the Washington Post that he has been released.

The veteran guard was slated to make $3.8 million next season, with an additional $1 million roster bonus. This is an expensive salary for someone who became a backup and was even deactivated on several occasions last season. Dockery entered the season as one of the starting guards, but did not fit coach Mike Shanahan's blocking scheme well and lost his job to Kory Lichtensteiger. He ended up only playing in five games the entire season.

Dockery returned to the Redskins after signing a five-year, $26.75 million prior to the 2009 season. He played the first four years of his career with the Redskins before going to the Buffalo Bills for two seasons. Given his salary, it is not surprising that the Redskins ended up choosing to release him.
