Crazy Facts About Redskins' 2011 NFL Draft Thus Far

It's been a pretty interesting day at the 2011 NFL Draft. The Washington Redskins began this process with eight picks, none of which were in the third or fourth round. After a bunch of trades, the Redskins now have 13 picks. Yes, that's right. The Redskins, who have consistently ignored the draft, have 13 draft picks in 2011

Just to put that in perspective, here are some crazy facts about this year's draft:

The Redskins have never had this many picks in a seven-round draft. In fact, the last time they had this many picks in any draft period was in 1982, when they had 15 in 12 rounds. (cc @JosephGWhite).

Over the past two years combined, the Redskins have had 12 picks. They have 13 this year alone.

The Redskins have already drafted twice as many defensive players in 2011 as they did in 2010. Ryan Kerrigan and Jarvis Jenkins makes two. Perry Riley was the only one last year.

The Redskins have a pick in every round for the first time since 1995. (cc @granthpaulsen)

The Redskins will have double-digit picks for the third time this decade. The other two times? The disaster draft of 2008, and 2002.

The Redskins have had fewer than six picks in nine of the last 11 years. Now, they have 13 picks. I guess they are overcompensating.
