NFLPA Head DeMaurice Smith Attends Washington Redskins' Players-Only Workout

Stay connected for news and updates

The Washington Redskins' players-only workout got an unexpected guest on Tuesday morning, as NFL Players Association head DeMaurice Smith showed up to the super-secret, undisclosed location where about 40 Redskins players are practicing. It's not clear exactly why Smith was there, but with similar workouts occurring across the country, it probably behooves Smith to show up to some of these to help protect his players' own interests.

Smith declined interview requests with the media, choosing instead to speak to the team on his own. In a touch of irony, eight rookies were at the workout, just after the NFL elected to cancel the rookie symposium that was scheduled to begin on June 26. It's not clear yet whether this was why Smith attended, but it probably isn't a mere coincidence.

No word on whether Smith told John Beck and Rex Grossman that they should tell anyone who doesn't believe in them as starting quarterbacks in the NFL that they [stink].
